Creamy Carrot Hummus with Spiced Beef: Your New Gut-Friendly Comfort Food

Updated: Jun 1

A crave-worthy take on hummus made with steamed carrots, tahini, and warming spices—topped with spiced grass-fed beef for protein, flavor, and balance. It’s legume-free, gut-friendly, and packed with Core Four nutrients your body will love.

I am truly obsessed with hummus and could literally eat it every day, but I needed something that felt just as comforting and flavorful, without the legume load, carb crash, and digestive discomfort that can come with chickpeas.

Enter carrots and spiced beef. I swapped in steamed carrots for chickpeas to get that creamy, slightly sweet base—without the bloat. The grass-fed, finished ground beef brings in quality protein to make this app or side dish more satisfying, while the spices add depth, warmth, and support for digestion and inflammation.

Spiced beef for protein, tahini for healthy fat, carrots for sweet fiber, and spices that bring flavor and support digestion—the Core Four in one crave-worthy app.
Spiced beef for protein, tahini for healthy fat, carrots for sweet fiber, and spices that bring flavor and support digestion—the Core Four in one crave-worthy app.

And let’s be real, I always eat way more traditional hummus than the recommended serving (which is only 2 to 4 tablespoons!!), and I don’t love limiting myself when it comes to my favorite foods!

This Creamy Carrot Hummus with Spiced Beef is everything I love about hummus—just lighter, more balanced, and packed with protein, fiber, healthy fats, and nutrient-dense spices for digestion and inflammation. This is the kind of gut-friendly, anti-inflammatory Core Four dish I’ll be coming back to again and again.

Why Carrots Instead of Chickpeas?

I enjoy traditional hummus but chickpeas, being starchy legumes, have a high glycemic load (heavy on the carbs) and can be tough on digestion for some people.

In fact, chickpeas can have a glycemic index of around 28, making them more glycemic than many realize. Did you know high glycemic foods often leads to unintended overeating?!

Carrots offer a delicious alternative. Here’s why they are a game changer:

  • Lower Glycemic Impact: Carrots have a glycemic index of about 39.

  • Gentle on Digestion: Roasted carrots break down easily in the digestive system.

  • Nutrient-Rich: They are packed with vitamins A, K, and B6, along with fiber.

  • Sweet and Savory: Roasting caramelizes their natural sugars, creating a smooth and sweet dip.

With these advantages, you can enjoy a generous portion without the bloating that often follows chickpea dishes. This Core Four spin on hummus delivers on flavor and function, all while supporting your nutrition goals and making your taste buds pop.

Why I’m Obsessed with This Spiced Ground Beef?

The sweet, creamy carrot hummus paired with warm, spiced ground beef... It’s cozy, flavorful, and perfectly grounding. I season the beef with cumin, paprika, oregano, and a pinch of cinnamon—not just for the flavor (which is amazing), but because these spices support digestion, help calm inflammation, and so much more.

I love using grass-fed and finished ground beef because it brings in protein and healthy fats—two key parts of the Core Four. It keeps me full, steady, and fueled for hours, without the crash or cravings. That said, this combo is super versatile. You can easily swap in ground turkey, bison, or lamb—whatever fits your dietary needs, mood, or what you have on hand.

When I build a dish, I am always thinking about ways to include the core four: protein, fat, fiber, and greens or colorful vegetables. I feel it in my mood, my energy, and how calm and supported my digestion feels after.

Ohh, I am not a huge fan of chickpeas so even though I love the idea of hummus, it's never really been my thing. So this looks like it would be incredible! I love the color the carrot adds, and I'm sure the beef pairs very well with it! I'll have to consider making this sometime too...!
